Into The Future - A Critical Evaluation
For my PMP poster for the event, I wanted to keep it simple and stylish to reflect my style of work. I wanted to include my recent fashion photography work as I felt it was my strongest shoot to date. Therefore I decided to surround the colour scheme and design around these images to create continuity. I included my professional portfolio website, so that people could then venture onto it later to view both my portfolio of work and my current CV. In terms of the content on my poster I decided to only use my dissertation question, a reference from a previous work placement, and bullet pointed areas of study, as I didn’t want the design to look overcrowded. Also, I didn’t like the idea of people reading my poster, finding out everything they needed to know and moving on. By keeping the content brief, it encouraged people to ask me about certain elements and therefore having a stronger discussion than I may have otherwise. When presenting my poster I found this to be the most difficult, as my poster was situated in a room hidden away in Millennium Point, I found that the only people I had to discuss my ideas and content with were my peers, and due to my positioning, I felt I was not given the opportunity to communicate with new people.
My involvement within the preparation for the event was within the Logo and Design team, this team had the important job of creating the brand identity of the event, as well as creating the promotional material for the event (flyers, posters, etc.). My role in the team was part of the distribution of this promotional material. I helped to promote for this event by advertising it in local businesses and colleges in the surrounding area, as well as within the Parkside and Millennium Point areas of Birmingham City University. We also visited the City North Birmingham City campus, in order to attract some students from some of the other courses at the university. These posters and flyers then allowed the awareness to stretch our target audience to people beyond those on the course and those who are either local or not local to the area surrounding Millennium Point.
