Curriculum Vitae
Currently studying Media & Communication at Birmingham City University, focusing in the areas of visual design, photography and web design. I'm currently looking for an opportunity to gain work experience within these areas of the media. I'm specifically looking for experience in the magazine industry and to help gain contacts in the relevant field of media. I feel that this can contribute to improving my design skills on various software and my understanding of how the magazine business works, whilst also building upon my visual design and branding skills.
Work Experience
Distinct Magazine - September 2014 to Present (@thisisdistinct)
A multi-media website based around fashion and beauty, providing a platform for people to get involved and collaborate together, therough photography, videos and blogs. I am the co-creator of the website, but also have the role of head of promotion and social media.
Sexuality at Scruffy's - May 2013
Working as part of a team of twenty students, putting together a visual and musical event focusing on the various issues surrounding sexuality in the current media. My main contribution to the event was designing and providing all of the promotional material for the event, including posters, flyers, and the overall branding.
What's On Midlands Magazine January 2013 – January 2013
I spent two weeks at the offices of What's On Midlands magazine helping the design team of the magazine create page spreads for interviews and entertainment listings. I was also given a project of a 6 page spread of Valentine's day gift ideas feature. Some of the tasks involved were sourcing images, corresponding with retail brands about products and images, whilst also designing and producing the final feature. This feature was then used in the online version of the February 2013 edition of the magazine, as well as a shortened version was used for the printed version. Other tasks I took part in over my two weeks were minor jobs for the editor, such as transcribing interviews, proofreading articles and listings, and checking information was correct in the magazine.
